Handschlagqualität. African Lace
Anna Hirschbühl, Cem-Samuel Metzler
Handschlagqualität (engl. the quality of handshakes) follows the trade relations of African Lace and its routes between Vorarlberg (Austria), where it is produced and its ex/import business to Nigeria. In traditional societies as in Vorarlberg (Austria) and Nigeria handshakes still have the same liability as written contracts. As artworks the project’s gloves from African Lace refer to these transcultural economic handshakes that exist for more than 50 years. They symbolize a history of (economic) alliance, appreciation, and respect.
